Google's new modular smartphone

Google showed off newly designed MODULAR smartphone and discovered a lot of details regarding its 1st Modular smartphone @ it's first-ever Ara Developers' Conference, being held from 15th Apr to 16th Apr.


Project Ara chief Paul Eremenko who said that 2 additional developer conferences are scheduled  for this year in July and Sept. Eremenko disclosed that the primary Project Ara modular smartphone will be expected to ship next January.

Further, Eremenko said that by the end of 2014, before the launch of modular phones, Google is going to be rolling out an update for android which will add support for Ara's modular parts.

Eremenko confirmed that the primary modular phone will be a common device dubbed 'gray phone', and can be offered for developers for $50.

As per report, Project Ara team also declare the Ara Configurator, that could be a tool for customizing every module of the phone. Users can design their own modular phone.

Earlier, Google before the Ara Developers' Conference, released the Project Ara Module Developers Kit (MDK).It's covered guidelines for developers for designing Project Ara smartphones, to create valid module design.

For those who don't know, the Project Ara design scheme inclusion of what Google calls an endoskeleton (endo) and modules. The endo is the main structural frame which holds all the modules in a place, whereas a module is anything, from a brand new application processor to a brand new display or keyboard, an additional battery, a pulse oximeter or some other customisable hardware unit.

The main advantage of this modular smartphone is that user can upgrade individual components like processor or camera or battery without replacing device.
